"This was the first time that Congress had legislatively delisted an endangered species. And the rider stated that the delisting 'shall not be subject to judicial review.' This decade-old protection from judicial review is the reason that conservation groups can’t fight for Northern Rockies wolves in court but instead must demand that the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) relist them."
I am fighting to relist the wolves in the Northern Rockies.
I love and respect your stories over Yellowstone and specially wolves. I love all the wild and everyone who wander in the wild. Thank You for sharing Your stories with us all. Love You.
Great compilation! Not just of OR-7 but of the decades-long back and forth court and political decisions to protect and deprive wolves of protection. Your covering recently reinstated wolf protection everywhere but the Northern Rockies explained the historical and political context why the court ruling doesn’t happen in WY,ID and MT. Good work!
I'm glad you enjoyed the compilation and found it enlightening. I enjoyed researching the two topics, wolf delisting and OR-7's travels, and then weaving them together. It took a lot of time but it was really eye-opening about the importance of protection--federal or state.
Fascinating account, Rick, especially how you interweave the life of 0R-7 with the larger context. A question: why are the western states so eager to kill wolves? I realize they "fear" the effects of wolves on livestock, but I also know that statistics don't support that. Is it that they just get off "hunting" a wild animal with a high-powered weapon? Reminds me of that old joke about the "right to arm bears". . . .
Yes, Brother, I enjoyed researching the two topics, wolf delisting and OR-7's travels and then weaving them together. It took a lot of time but it was really eye-opening about the importance of protection. In regards to why do the western states want to kill wolves, you might enjoy this piece from my blog: http://ricklamplugh.blogspot.com/2022/02/changing-narrative-about-wolves.html
Now I get it. How tragic.

Love reliving the story of our beloved wolves! Never give up the fight to get all our wolves relisted!
And OR-7 sure had quite the story, eh?
Thank you so much for keeping hope alive. We love our wolves.
Here's to keeping hope alive, Patricia.
