Welcome to Love the Wild. I’m glad you’re here.
I’m very fortunate to live in Gardiner, Montana, at Yellowstone’s north gate. I have written two award-winning Amazon best sellers about Yellowstone, In the Temple of Wolves and Deep into Yellowstone.
Living in Gardiner, I can experience the park and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem’s wild lands and wildlife throughout the seasons. And when I do, I’m almost always accompanied by my wife, Mary, and my trusty camera.
I recently examined a decade worth of photographs that I took while on these outings. Some of those photos, I realized, captured special moments that inspired me to dig deeper and learn more so that I could better understand and write about the moment I had experienced in these wild lands I so dearly love.
Sometimes the captured moment leads me to describe some compelling aspect of behavior, biology, geology, ecology, or natural history. Sometimes the moment leads me to write about our encroachment and impact on wildlife and wild lands. Sometimes the moment puts me on my advocacy soapbox. And sometimes the moment touches my heart and leads me to write a love letter to some wild critter or wild spot.
The photos and stories collected here capture wildlife and wild lands as seen through the lens of my camera and a filter of researched facts and revealed feelings.
May these stories and photos warm your heart and excite your mind. I hope you enjoy learning more about wildlife and wild lands with me.
